How to Create a Showit Menu

Build Your Website & Brand, Tutorials

filed in

In today’s video I’m going to walk you through three different ways to make navigation menus in Showit.

Today we’re going to focus on three different Showit menu types.

  1. A traditional, horizontal menu. [example: http://stjean.daveyandkrista.com)
  2. A menu with dropdowns. [example: https://stpatrickslexington.com/]
  3. And a menu that pops out.  [example: https://pelosa.daveyandkrista.com/

You can use the time-stamps below to jump to whatever menu you’re interested in designing.

Horizontal Navigation Menu

This is always the preferred type of menu. It’s the most simple and it adjusts well between desktop and mobile.

Dropdown Menus in Showit

I actually created a video a few years ago that walks you through the steps of creating dropdown menus in Showit, but since then, I’ve learned an easier way. I’m going to preface this by saying that dropdown menus are not ideal. They can be a bit finicky to use and they won’t work on mobile devices. Whenever possible, we always recommend consolidating content into fewer but longer pages. However if you have a big site like I showed in the example of St Patrick’s Church, sometimes you’ll need to create dropdown menus. Just keep in mind that you may need to add another page for mobile to help direct people to all the different pages on a site (example – St Patrick’s Church.)

For a tutorial, check out the video above.

Pop Out Menu (for Mobile Menus)

One other way to create menus is to add a menu that pops open when a button is clicked (show example of La Pelosa). This is actually how we build our mobile menus, but you could also do this for desktop.

For a tutorial, check out the video above.
