Branding & Web Design
Over the past few years, we have come to call Kiss Books CEO Shaun Austin Gordon a dear friend. His passion, not only for small business owners but for a life well-lived, were evident from the first time we met. Kiss is so much more than just a book company. They are relentlessly dedicated to the pursuit of simple and the pursuit of intentional, authentic relationships. Not only do they produce beautiful handcrafted albums, they provide top notch customer service and we love using Kiss for our own photography business.
In 2017, Shaun and the Kiss team asked us to help them launch their new brand and website. As we sat down to talk about their vision for their brand, words like Simple, Relational, Beautiful, Intentional and Artisanal came up over and over again.
We especially loved how Anjolie, Ground Control for Kiss Books, described where the Kiss brand would travel:
If Kiss could travel the world, you could find it in Malta, a small set of islands in the Mediterranean. She heard that Apostle Paul was shipwrecked there, that Brangelina shot two movies there, and that the Queen of England used to visit regularly with her husband in the 1950s. So much history and yet so unknown, it would be the perfect unique destination for one-of-a-kind shots, with its Blue Grotto and Azure Window. Kiss loves vacationing in places rich with historical value. Legends of the small island are shared over fences, while haggling for fresh fish, or with a glass of wine. Unlocking the stories of years past is life-giving and communal. She hopes to visit the past and return inspired for the future.
We drew inspiration from brands like Restoration Hardware and Williams Sonoma as well as Kiss’ own beautiful products to create the look and feel for the brand.
The brand we came up with has an editorial feel with lots of neutral colors and hints of art-deco. Geometric lines imply an open book without being too literal, and extra logotypes enable the logo to be used in a variety of situations.
“In an age and industry where first impressions can make or break you, I’m so happy I went with Davey and Krista.
