Your "Real" Google Rank

Google is a bit creepy. Okay, make that a lot creepy. If you’re searching for something while you’re logged into your Google account, it knows who you are and what you want to see. This is awesome if you’re trying to order a pizza or find the nearest gas station. But if you’re trying to see where you rank in Google, you might be getting bias results.

If you’re logged into your Google account, the results you see are most likely based on your location, the device you’re using, your browser, your email calendar, Google+ activity, your browser history, what your email contacts are sharing on Google+, and even the bookmarks in your browser. So let’s say you’re a calligrapher, and you search for calligraphers in your area—you’ll most likely show up in the search results because Google knows who is searching.

It’s easy to get around Google’s tracking without logging out of your email, clearing your history and deleting all of your bookmarks. If you use Google Chrome, it’s called Incognito mode and you can access it from that icon in the top right corner of your browser window with three horizontal bars.

Note: Of course, the people searching for you are probably not using Incognito Search. All of their browsing history, locality, etc. will be taken into account by Google when they search.
