We moved into our house three years ago this fall, and knew immediately that the kitchen would need to be updated. The cabinets were compressed wood, the laminate countertop scratched and stained easily, the electric panel on the oven collapsed and was prone to catching on fire—no, seriously, it caught on fire—and overall, it just wasn’t our style. Did we mention the oven caught on fire?
But the room was open and we knew with some work, it could be exactly what we wanted. As soon as we moved in we painted the kitchen walls a light greenish-blue and the trim white. And then we waited…
This is what the house looked like when we moved in in 2013:
After years of saving, we were finally able to upgrade to the coastal kitchen of our dreams! We replaced the carpet and vinyl flooring on most of the first-floor with hardwood-looking tile because we thought it would better endure the dogs. So far, so good!
We bought new cabinets in a “Coastal White” finish, updated the lighting, scraped the popcorn ceiling, added recessed lighting and updated the appliances. The kitchen feels so much bigger!
Both our kitchen designer Chrystal Hess of Kitchen, Bath, & Tile Center and our contractor Tim Goodrich of BZB Construction were awesome. The renovation only took about four weeks, and Tim did a great job of communicating with us as the renovation happened.
