A Look Behind the Brand: Why We Loved Designing House of Light
When Kate Elizabeth, a long-time client and founder of Kate Elizabeth Events, reached out about branding a new business arm—House of Light—we knew this project would be something special.
House of Light isn’t your average rental company. It’s an elevated, artfully curated candle and accent lighting brand designed to create warmth, ambiance, and sophistication at events across Utah and beyond. From intimate weddings in the mountains to large-scale gatherings, the brand’s mission is clear: light should feel magical.
From our first conversation, we had a strong sense of the direction:
- Refined yet romantic
- Timeless, but never stiff
- Chic, cozy, and above all—elevated
Kate came to us with years of industry experience, a clear design eye, and a sincere desire to create a brand that felt like a natural sister to Kate Elizabeth Events—familiar, but distinct.
Whether you’re a brand designer, wedding pro, or creative entrepreneur dreaming of your own luxe spin-off brand, there’s something here for you.

The Client Vision: From Wedding Planner to Candle Curator
Kate is no stranger to weddings. As the creative force behind Kate Elizabeth Events, she’s spent nearly a decade curating timeless, emotional, and luxurious celebrations. But she kept running into one major gap: candles.
Rather than continuing to outsource rentals that fell short—too sparse, too generic, too low-quality—she decided to create her own. What began as a personal styling solution quickly grew into a sought-after offering. Now, it’s a standalone brand.
Enter: House of Light.
Our job? Create a brand that holds its own as a high-end rental company while feeling like a seamless extension of Kate’s established identity.

Our Approach: Designing from the Inside Out
This wasn’t a “make it pretty and call it done” kind of brand. House of Light needed strategy. Thought. A distinct point of view.
We started with:
- Brand discovery questionnaire
- Tone and aesthetic alignment with Kate Elizabeth Events
- Target audience clarity
- Deep dive into competitor positioning in the Utah market
What stood out most? Kate’s love of light as emotion, not just a visual element. Her voice was poetic and romantic. She talked about how flickering candles feel, not just how they look.
This meant one thing: we had to design for feeling.

The Brand Personality: Warm, Elevated, Romantic
We anchored the brand around these core keywords:
Chic. Clean. Refined. Warm. Elevated.
More descriptively:
- Think golden light through antique glass
- A whisper of French elegance meets Rocky Mountain charm
- Quiet luxury—nothing loud, nothing overdone
The brand personality we wrote was:
“Graceful, poised, and effortlessly sophisticated. They bring warmth and refinement to every space the enter—elevating atmosphere with understated yet striking aesthetic.”
And so that’s what we designed toward.
The Visual Direction
Fonts
We selected a trio of typefaces that reflected different sides of the brand:
- Silk Serif Extra Light: Elegant and delicate, this became our hero type. It was the serif we used in Kate’s wedding planning brand so it made sense to stay consistent.
- Minion 3 Italic: Classic and editorial. It softens the brand’s high-end feel without losing authority.
- Source Code Pro Medium: A subtle nod to modernity for practical application.
Together, this typography system communicated a whisper—not a shout—of luxury.
Color Palette
Inspired by Kate’s own aesthetic and candle photography:
- Taupes, soft golds, and warm greys
- Muted neutrals layered with light
- Hints of cream and stone
- Occasional moodiness for depth
This was a palette designed to reflect glow, not glitter. Subtle. Sophisticated. Soothing.
Iconography & Brand Elements
We designed custom supporting marks and subtle icons that feel editorial and modern—while allowing the primary brand to remain center stage.
Every brand element had one goal: elevate ambiance.

Cohesion with Kate Elizabeth Events
Because House of Light evolved out of Kate’s original wedding planning brand, we designed with cohesion in mind. The logos, tones, and style needed to feel like siblings—not twins.
We approached this with:
- Shared photography style: film-inspired, clean, and emotional
- Similar but distinct color family
- Fonts that complement Kate Elizabeth Events without duplicating
- Subtle cross-brand storytelling
This keeps the client journey seamless while ensuring House of Light can stand alone as its own luxury experience.
Benefits to the Client
From our perspective as the designer, the final House of Light brand offers:
- Instant credibility: It feels established, even though it’s brand new.
- Visual distinction in the rental market: Most Utah rental brands lean rustic or minimal. House of Light feels couture.
- Clear audience alignment: Brides and planners who shop Sezane, Alice Lane, or Diptyque will feel seen.
- Scalability: The brand is strong enough to carry more offerings in the future—without needing a rebrand.
- Seamless brand extension: House of Light perfectly complements Kate Elizabeth Events, making referrals and crossover effortless.
- Elevated client experience: From the website (coming soon) to the candle crates, the entire journey is designed to feel boutique and intentional.
The Final Brand in Action
We wrapped this brand with a beautiful set of deliverables:
- Primary and secondary logos
- Supporting marks and icons
- Full brand guide
- Color palette and typography system
- Social media look + feel
- Sample photography styling direction
It’s a brand we’re proud to have built—one that’s now out in the wild, ready to light up Utah events with warmth, glow, and understated magic.
