Brands that Book Show

Interview with Genna Blackburn

"It's good to keep it consistent. Consistent equals confidence. When your portfolio is cohesive, it makes it look like you've put the time in."

In today’s episode, I’m chatting with Genna Blackburn about finding your signature style. Whether you’re a designer, artist or any kind of creative, I think you’re going to find a lot of wisdom with Genna.

We cover everything about

  • why a signature style is important
  • how to actually find your signature style
  • the ways it can actually help elevate your work
  • causing less friction between you and your clients

Today’s episode is sponsored by BDOW!, formerly Sumo, the very best intelligent form and pop-up tool for your website. Deliver the right message, to the right visitor, using our advanced targeting rules. Whether you want to display a pop-up to only new visitors, or generate a unique discount code for those who subscribe to your list, you can get the job done using BDOW!

One of my personal favorite features is the Showit tab function. Basically how this works is when visitors close the pop-up, it minimizes to the bottom of the page so that visitors can open it back up if they’d like, but it also remains out of their way while they browse. You can check out how that feature works over at the Davey and Krista website.

More About Genna

Genna Blackburn is an illustrator, surface designer and educator in Detroit, Michigan. Her work is a playful exploration of color and shape stemming from her background in graphic design. She loves drawing, seeing her work on fun products out in the world, and teaching other artists what she knows about creating artwork and presenting it in a beautiful portfolio. As a licensing artist, she’s had the pleasure of seeing her work on products for companies like Target, Hello Bello, Papyrus and Jiggy Puzzles.

    Meet Davey & Krista

We've spent 15+ years designing brands and websites for creative businesses — and paying close attention to what actually works.

Every template we've built is informed by real client projects, real conversion data, and a deep understanding of what makes someone go from browsing to booking. We don't just design for beautiful. We design for what happens after someone lands on your page.

That's why our templates don't just come with files. They come with the guidance to use them — writing prompts, launch checklists, and systems that take you from purchase to published.

We also teach. Our designer courses are where we train the next generation of designers, and DesignEdit is our newsletter for working creatives who want to stay ahead of AI. All of it comes from the same place: the belief that good design should make your business feel lighter, not harder.
