Here are the 4 Things You Need

Would you like to start building and selling Showit websites?

Welcome. You’re in the right place and we’ll let you in on a little secret:

It’s easy to begin.

You do not need a degree in graphic design, a fancy computer or even CSS & HTML knowledge.

“So what do I need to become a website designer?”

In this blog post, we will show you the four things you need to build and sell Showit websites as a professional. Pair these four items with your creativity and watch your artistic designs transform into a steady revenue stream.

Why Design Showit Websites?

Showit is the perfect platform with which to begin your website design journey.  This drag-and-drop website builder was created specifically for creative professionals who want to design stunning online websites their clients can easily customize.

While other platforms, like Elementor and Squarespace, provide no-coding website building as well, Showit is hands down the platform we’d recommend to fellow designers.

4 Things You Need to Build & Sell Showit Websites

1. A Showit Account

The first thing you will need is a Showit Account. At the time of writing, Showit offers a 14-day free trial. This way you can gain familiarity with the website builder and tools before making a final commitment.

It may also be helpful to go through the Showit Design Standards Online Course. In this course, Showit will walk you through their requirements and best practices for design settings, formatting, design testing, etc. Showit expects all designers completing their course to achieve 90% passing rate on section quizzes and 100% on the final quiz, however, there is a separate application process to become a formal Showit Design Partner.

Showit also provides a 30-minute video to teach you how to design websites. We highly recommend watching this video to learn the ins and outs of Showit’s building tools.

2. Design Software

Once you have your Showit account and are becoming more familiar with how to use it, it is time to choose your preferred design software. We recommend you start with the Adobe Creative Suite and Sketch.

We especially love Sketch because it’s easy to drag and drop design elements between multiple designs. Rather than having everything organized into separate files, Sketch allows you to keep all of your designs in one main project.

I know quite a few designers who use Illustrator and others who really enjoy Figma.

Choose a software you enjoy and find intuitive.

For many of our website designs, we pull imagery from stock photo sites–online photo libraries filled with professional, royalty-free images that anyone can use. These sites often partner with talented photographers and videographers around the world to curate eye-catching content. The fonts and color palettes you choose to incorporate into your websites will set you apart from other Showit designers. You may find these resources helpful as you begin your website design journey:

3. Screen Recording Solution

Once you’ve designed your stunning websites, it’s time to market them. The easiest way to share your websites is by recording your screen as you scroll and click through your designs. Then share the recordings on social graphics that have iPad, laptop, and mobile frames.

Our favorite screen recording solutions are ScreenFlow, Loom, and QuickTime. Note, QuickTime is a bit more limited but still works well. If you have an Apple computer, you can also record your screen by pressing the Command key, Shift key, and number 5 key at once.

4. A Cart System

The final item you need to become a website designer is a place where you can sell your websites. In other words, you need an online cart system.

You can’t go wrong with Shopify, WooCommerce, or Thrivecart.

Shopify is a great starting point because it’s a lower investment and works easily with Showit. The Shopify design is intuitive and creates a “cart” on the side of your store. Customers can then click on embedded buttons to add multiple products to the cart at once.

Integrating WooCommerce into your Showit site will require you to be a bit more tech-savvy and you will need the Advanced Blog Showit plan. But WooCommerce does a lot of the design legwork for you!

Thrivecart is a perfect option for smaller businesses and allows you to create customized checkouts good tool to use.
